Objetivou-se a partir deste estudo gerar equações a partir de modelos matemáticos para estimar de forma não destrutiva a massa de frutos de macieira (Malus domestica Borkh) das cultivares Eva, Julieta e Princesa a partir das dimensões do diâmetro e do comprimento. Para tanto, um total de 390 frutos (130 de cada cultivar) foram utilizados. De todos os frutos, obteve-se o maior diâmetro (D) em mm, o maior comprimento (C) em mm e massa observada (MO) em g. Ajustou-se regressão de modelo linear de primeiro grau e potência e seu respectivo coeficiente de determinação (R2) para todas as cultivares, onde MO foi usado como variável dependente em função de D e C como variáveis independentes. A partir dos modelos obtidos, validou-se as equações calculando os valores do erro absoluto do erro (EAM), a raiz quadrada média do erro (RQME) e o Ãndice Willmott (d). Para escolha dos melhores modelos, utilizou-se o EAM e a RQME mais próximos de zero, Ãndice d mais próximo de um e R2 acima de 0,90. A massa dos frutos de macieira pode ser prevista pelo modelo potência através do maior diâmetro dos frutos pela equação ME= 0,0064(D)2,3780 para cv. Eva, ME= 0,0054(D)2,4015 para cv. Julieta e ME= 0,0041 (D)2,4716 para cv. Princesa. Em caso de necessidade, a equação de modelo potência ME= 0,0051(D)2,4150 pode ser usada para estimar de forma conjunta a massa das cultivares Julieta e Princesa a partir do maior diâmetro. |

The construction of a socio-technical approach to raise laying hens (Gallus domesticus) in agroecological systems relies on literature review, organic agriculture norms and empirical data collection. This study aims to contribute to this process applying participatory methodologies (e.g. action-research) and systemic approach to the implementation of an agroecological system by a group of small farmers from Santa Catarina State, Brazil. The theoretical and philosophical framework was defined after review of the literature where the relationship between hens and human societies in different historical periods was considered. Conceptual basis of permaculture and natural agriculture were also considered, as well as organic production standards. This study describes and examines the conception, implementation and first results of an associative project designed to produce and process organic eggs. The results are presented from a sociocultural perspective and analyses farmer's attitudes and behaviour during the conversion period. The study illustrates to what extent the choice for a specific methodological approach influences changes at farm level and its neighborhood. Therefore, it highlights the importance to apply bottom-up approach to carry out research on hens husbandry systems. The breeding activity analysis is made based on the system's structure. Hens? multifunctionality and the benefits of plant-animal interaction are the main results observed. Additionally, a field trial evaluating the behaviour of laying hens bred on pasture showed a good performance of commercial breeds. This study suggests that the conversion period should be evaluated using participatory methodologies; that is essential to invest on the training of farmers and their participation on networks; that cooperation and interchange between farmers and consumers is important; and that the impacts of activity on natural resources an welfare of the birds must be monitored.
